The 1975 have put the focus firmly on the environment in announcing plans to stage the most sustainably responsible show ever held at London’s Finsbury Park this summer.
The band will headline the show on July 11, with a supporting cast including Charli XCX and Clairo alongside Dirty Hit labelmates Pale Waves and Beabadoobee.
Following the upcoming release of Notes On A Conditional Form and their latest arena tour, the event is set to mark The 1975’s biggest show to date.
Alongside promoters Festival Republic, they’re aiming to reduce its on-site carbon footprint by 90%, with the show to be powered exclusively by Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil.
A ‘food traffic light system’ will calculate the carbon footprint of every meal sold on the day, while 1,975 trees will be planted in the London boroughs bordering the site. The band have also pledged to plant a tree for every ticket sold, with planting to take place in Peru, Indonesia, Brazil, the Philippines and India.
Using live screen printing, The 1975 will also repurpose merchandise from previous tours, with fans encouraged to bring old band T-shirts for reprinting.
Last year, in an interview with Music Week to celebrate his company’s Best Independent Label win at the Music Week Awards, Dirty Hit founder Jamie Oborne underlined its focus on environmental issues. The band worked with activist Greta Thunberg on the introductory single for their new album.

Tickets for the Finsbury Park show, where Phoebe Bridgers, Cavetown and Deb Never are also on the bill, are on sale on January 31.
