D2C specialist Music Glue has appointed Russel Coultart as its new global head of business development.
Coultart, who has previously served as global head of e-commerce for Universal Music Group and is the co-founder of e-commerce platform Digital Stores, will be responsible for building new relationships with larger, corporate companies in the music space and developing existing partnerships.
“Russell will be an invaluable asset to our company,” Mark Meharry, founder and CEO of Music Glue, told Music Week. “When he said he’d like to get on board with us I nearly fell off my feet.
We are starting to work with some very big players, but in-house we haven’t had anyone that’s dealt with that before. And with scale comes additional problems, but Russel’s got enormous experience in that area and can do it blindfolded.”
Coultart added: “I’m excited by the vision, the innovation and the ambition of Mark and his team to offer artists and their fans the best experience possible.
Music Glue have built a fantastic and truly global technology platform. It’s by far the best music e-commerce platform I’ve seen.”
Coultart’s career began in the early ‘90s as a producer, recording artist and DJ, before launching Transient Records in 1995. In 1997 he founded Recordstore.co.uk, which later became Digital Stores.
