'We like the diversity of their business': Managers Jon Bailey and Marc Sheinman join Insanity

Management duo Jon Bailey and Marc Sheinman have spoken exclusively to Music Week about their company’s acquisition by Insanity Group.

As revealed in the latest issue, the duo’s firm 7980 and its roster – including Wilkinson, David Rodigan and newcomer Jvck James – are now part of Insanity Group. Bailey, Sheinman and day-to-day manager Jess McDonald have relocated to Insanity’s management offices in High Street Kensington.

“We’ve worked with Andy for a number of years on a number of different projects and artists in various capacities, we’ve always got on well and admired what he’s about and the company’s about,” said Bailey. “We’re really excited to be in the Insanity fold.”

He added that their firm would be fully incorporated into the Insanity operation.

“That’s the point of joining a company like Insanity – to get that infrastructure and team,” he said. “We will continue to operate as a duo, we work across everything together with Jess who backs us up.”

Sheinman added: “We’re here to look after the talent and also work with good people. You’ve got to be able to put the best people and system around the talent you work with.

“It was a big decision for myself and Jon, because we’re both independent-minded. But it’s the people there – we know a lot of the team at Insanity. We like the diversity of their business, they don’t just sit in one place – they have a record company, they look after broadcasters, as do we, and there are different areas where we can tap the skillsets of our songwriters into their infrastructure.”

Andy Varley, founder & CEO of Insanity Group, said: “I have had the pleasure of knowing Jon and Marc for almost 10 years. I have always been impressed by their can-do, forward thinking and creative attitude towards talent management, qualities that we share in our business. I’m looking forward to working with them to further build their existing roster, whilst helping them grow into new areas of the entertainment business”.

Insanity, which was founded by Varley in 1997, has a long-term JV with Sony Music for frontline label Insanity Records. Current campaigns include Craig David and Tom Grennan

Insanity Group has offices in London and Los Angeles and employs a team of 40 people globally. In addition to the acquisition, its management roster includes Don Diablo and Icarus, as well as media talent such as Jo Whiley, Maya Jama and Alice Levine.
