Dave Berry is to take over the Absolute Radio Breakfast show, following the departure of current presenter Christian O’Connell in the summer
Berry joined Absolute in October last year and currently presents the 4-7pm slot on weekdays. He’s also hosted gigs on the network by Liam Gallagher and Rag’N’Bone Man.
During more than a decade on radio, Berry’s presented breakfast shows on Capital and Xfm.
“Dave is one of Britain’s best breakfast broadcasters and from our first conversation we were always clear that he was the natural successor,” said Absolute Radio content director Paul Sylvester. “Dave has a unique charm, intelligence and humour. He also perfectly understands the ingredients of how to make the perfect breakfast show.”

Dave Berry said: “I am overjoyed to have been offered the opportunity to host Breakfast and the chance to wake up the nation. We are already developing some exciting ideas for the show, and I can’t wait for our listeners to discover what we have up our sleeves.”
Berry will be joined in the mornings by his current co-host Matt Dyson, as well as existing news and sports presenters, Emma Jones and Glenn Moore. O’Connell is emigrating with his family to Australia after 12 years on the station.
The main Absolute network was up 6% year-on-year and 21.8% quarter-on-quarter to 2.608m in the latest RAJAR results. Tony Moorey, group content director for the Absolute Network, hinted at the change in Music Week's recent Q4 2017 RAJAR analysis, saying: “We’re enormously grateful to Christian for everything he’s done for us. It’s been a fantastic relationship and we wish him well in his new position, it sounds like quite an adventure for him. But change is sometimes a good thing and we have a depth of talent on the station that should see us through.”
Absolute is nominated in the Radio Station category for the 2018 Music Week Awards next month.
