Mood Media has launched a new series, Mood Live, to showcase breakthrough artists.
New York indie pop singer Tor Miller (pictured), who is signed to Glassnote Records, was the first act to perform at the event, which takes place every month at Mood’s Shoreditch offices. Upcoming performers include Daniel Meade and The Flying Mules, and Mahalia.
“At Mood, we have a team of music experts whose job is to find the artists and tracks that best fit each and every one of our client’s brands and, therefore, playlists,” said Paul Hillyer, Mood Media’s UK head of creative. “This job and the fact that we distribute 180 million tracks every day worldwide, means we have great relationships with major and independent record labels, that support our scouting job and give us early access to the best breakthrough musicians around.
“The idea behind Mood Live was to give access to our privileged position to a larger audience, mostly made of our staff and clients. The idea initially came to life when we hosted UK singer/songwriter Rae Morris, for the opening party of our Curtain Road offices last October.
“So far we have kept it quite intimate, inviting a few clients at the time and our staff to attend. Going forward we might decide to move the performances from office hours to the evening, so there is always scope for this to grow.”
Explaining the artist selection process, Hillyer said: “We give priority to singers that are also songwriters, usually solo or duo. As performances happen in our Shoreditch offices the next criteria to fulfil is the ability to strip back the performance, to perform an acoustic set or a small setup, for instance with keys, and/or acoustic or semi-acoustic guitars.
“In an ideal world, we want to help raise the profile of every musician that walks through our door. Admittedly, some won’t need a huge amount of help from us, but all footage is shared, so we are happy to help with creating promotional material for these talented performers.”
All recordings are uploaded on Mood Media UK's YouTube channel and website.
