Music Week is set to join more than 450 of the hottest new acts on the south coast this week, as the industry descends on Brighton for The Great Escape festival.
The event takes place from May 18-20 and, as well as reporting live across social media and musicweek.com, we’ll be taking part in events with Music Glue and Urban Development.
On Friday, May 19 at 2pm, Music Week’s Ben Homewood will interview Music Glue CEO Mark Meharry at the company’s TGE base, Music Glue House. The two will discuss the music industry’s relationship with retail. Meharry will also present some significant case studies alongside a proposal on how the business can better serve music fans.
Music Glue House will be open from 11am-6pm on Thursday 18 and Friday 19, located at Dead Wax Social, 18A Bond Street, Brighton, BN1 1RD. Music Glue is a specialist e-commerce platform and is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
Later on Friday, we’ll be teaming up with Urban Development and Universal Music to host a special edition Industry Takeover Seminar at The Old Courtroom. The seminar aims to unpack the business behind the urban music scene and what that it means for the future for young music industry professionals, independent and emerging artists.
Urban Development and Universal Music have assembled a panel of music industry experts Alex Boateng (head of urban, Island Records), Tasha Demi (product manager, Polydor Records), Zeon Richards (director, Renowned) and Joss Meek (head of digital, Wired PR) to discuss a range of topics, from label services to brand partnerships.
The seminar takes place at 4pm at The Old Courtroom, 118 Church St, Brighton BN1 1UD. Urban Development is also hosting a showcase featuring three acts it has supported – Paigey Cakey, Tizzy & Brandz and The Masks – as well as Kojey Radical and Folly Rae. Click here for more details.
