New edition of Music Week out now

Welcome to the bumper Christmas special edition of Music Week, brought to you by our Artist Of The Year, Lewis Capaldi, who leads a star-studded cast.

We join the hitmaking machine on the road to find out how it feels to be on top of the pop world. Virgin EMI president Ted Cockle and the rest of Capaldi’s team tell us how they did it. Naturally, there’s tinsel involved.

And our Lewis Capaldi epic is just the start…

Mabel is no stranger to a megahit either, and we crown the pop force behind the million-selling Don’t Call Me Up Breakthrough Artist Of The Year. A two-time Music Week cover star, Mabel is at the centre of one of the most fascinating modern music biz stories there is, and this latest chapter proves another highlight.

Star hitmaker Savan Kotecha is our Songwriter Of The Year and he talks to Music Week from his Los Angeles home to comb through a stellar career that takes in working with One Direction, Ariana Grande, Sam Smith and many, many more. As songwriting stories go, this is one of the best there is.

There’s more magic in this week’s Big Story, which features an exit interview with outgoing Merlin boss Charles Caldas, while we bring you big developments from the Arizona Zervas camp, too.

Every Christmas, Music Week breathes fresh life into the stories that defined the year, and this edition is no different. First up, we let the stars do the talking as we bring you the Quotes Of 2019, featuring a glitzy array of names including Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, Jason Iley, Emily Eavis, Annie Mac and more.

Also in the features section, we gather a selection of top names to tell the story of how Instagram and TikTok took over the music business, examine the truth behind the evolution of the physical market and look back on how a vault fire sparked change for the debate around artist rights.

We also catch up with Team Spice Girls to reflect on the reunion tour to end all reunion tours. Talking of legends made in the ’90s, who better to take on our Christmas edition of The Aftershow than Noel Gallagher?

To top it all off, there’s a festive Hotshots, we poll the industry for their best and worst bits of 2019 and there’s all the very latest news, charts and analysis.

So let Music Week see you through the Christmas break. We’ll be back in January.
