New edition of Music Week out now

The new issue of Music Week is out now as we welcome Idles to the cover to celebrate their truly remarkable success story.

Ahead of the release of their highly-anticipated new album Ultra Mono, Music Week joins singer Joe Talbot and manager Mark Bent as well as team Partisan to talk about how a noisy band who spent years in the wilderness have graduated to play huge gigs and build an almighty fanbase.

In addition, we deliver a special report on the physical and digital distribution sector. As part of our overview, a host of key names such as Proper Music, Republic Of Music, Ingrooves, Freeme Digital and Fuga weigh in about the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and ponder the future of physical music.

Also inside, executive coach and diversity consultant Claire Singers argues the case for blended working in a special employment Viewpoint.

This week's Big Story marks the return of our annual survey of the co-writing phenomenon to reveal the average number of songwriters required to produce the UK’s biggest hits. Not only do we reveal the new magic number, but there’s also insight from Universal Music Publishing Group UK’s Mike McCormack, Warner Chappell Music’s Paul Smith, Nina Nesbitt and BMG’s Lisa Cullington.

Also in news, AWAL president Paul Hitchman talks about their growth and the Music Producers Guild detail their new membership scheme for the studio sector in response to the global pandemic.

MJ Cole guides us through the creation of Stormzy’s Crown in Hitmakers, while Semisonic frontman/songwriter to the stars Dan Wilson reflects on his storied career in The Aftershow.

We look at the punk and poetry of Limerick star Sinead O’Brien in On The Radar and BMG’s Daisy Carberry is our latest Rising Star.

Alongside all that, we bring you the very latest charts, news and analysis.
