ERA's Kim Bayley has criticised the terms of the PRS/PPL joint venture, calling the two organisations "effectively monopolies" and warning that some retailers may "give up on music entirely" if licence fees continue to increase.

In a blog post, the chief exec wrote that many ERA members had reported fees rising at more double the rate of inflation over the past decade, which "can wipe out any retail profit on music sales".
