BMG UK has appointed Alexi Cory-Smith as its new president, repertoire and marketing, after six years in the role of EVP.
Her appointment follows the company’s most successful year in records to to date.
In 2016, BMG UK scored hit albums with the likes of Jack Savoretti, Blink-182 and Rick Astley. It is also a finalist in four categories at the 2017 Music Week Awards, including a very rare Record Company/Publisher Of The Year double.
Cory-Smith described the move to president from executive vice-president (“After six years, I’ve finally lost the vice!” she said) as less of a promotion and “more of an affirmation” of her role leading the UK company alongside EVP/CFO Paul Wilson.
BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch said the promotion was in “recognition of Alexi’s role in driving BMG’s repertoire performance in the UK”.
“It is a powerful example of the BMG philosophy in action,” he added. “Publishing and records under one roof, and all driven by a relentless commitment to fairness, transparency and service.”
Cory-Smith sees further potential for growth on that side of the business and told Music Week of a raft of new signings on the recordings side, including Texas, Blondie, Nickelback and Kylie Minogue, who will make her debut for the group later this year.
