Downtown Music Publishing has announced the appointment of Peter Rosenthal as general counsel.
Rosenthal will oversee worldwide legal and business affairs for Downtown Music Publishing, Songtrust, and Downtown Music Studios.
This remit will include publishing, administration, license agreements and other transactional matters, acquisitions, global policy, enforcement, and corporate matters. Rosenthal will be based in New York, reporting to Downtown's chief operating officer, Andrew Bergman.
Bergman said: "Peter and I have been working together for more than a decade. When I joined Downtown, he became the outside advisor with whom we entrusted much of the complicated legal work involved in building our dynamic, global business."
The COO added that appointing Rosenthal as general counsel "was one of the easiest decisions we've ever had to make”.

Rosenthal has more than 20 years’ experience in the entertainment, new media, technology, and fashion and luxury goods industries.
Prior to Downtown, he was a partner in the New York office of the law firm Ritholz Levy Fields LLP, where he spent more than 13 years. Prior to that, Rosenthal worked at Playboy.com, Inc., Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison LLP, and the Entrepreneurial Services Group of Bingham, Dana & Gould.
Rosenthal is an occasional guest speaker on copyright at NYU's Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. He holds degrees from Oberlin College and Boston University School of Law.
Earlier this summer Downtown announced a raft of expansions in its Nashville office.
