The International Confederation of Music Publishers (ICMP) has given its support to MEP Axel Voss ahead of the debate and vote on EU copyright reform.
With the Article 13 being considered by the European Parliament today and tomorrow, the publishers association has urged legislators to back the proposals that appear in report Voss authored.
"We are pleased to join the many citizens, songwriters and artists, consumers and policymakers across Europe supporting this approach, even as powerful opponents mischaracterise its merits," said ICMP's chair Chris Butler.
"We urge that these important policy decisions be determined by the facts and their benefits for Europe."
The report is being debated by the European Parliament today (September 11) ahead of the vote tomorrow, and the issue has devided the music industry.
YouTube's Robert Kyncl has opposed the changes that will put the onus on online services to filter user generated content or obtained difference licenses, while executive chair of IMPALA, Helen Smith, has claimed the proposals are needed to "make the internet fair and sustainable for all.”
