Kanye West sues label and publisher

Kanye West has filed lawsuits against both EMI Music Publishing and Universal Music Group.

In October, West posted a social media video complaining that Sony/ATV, which controls EMI, had not allowed him to buy out the contract. The video referenced then incoming Sony/ATV boss Jon Platt.

“I got the money,” he said. “So, big Jon, Marty, whoever is involved, I need my publishing. I got the money.”

Now West is suing both his publisher and label, Roc-a-Fella/Def Jam and Bravado.

The lawsuits were filed on Friday (January 25) in Los Angeles Superior Court, though most details have not been made public. West alleges “unjust enrichment” by both the label and publisher.

Neither West, Sony/ATV or UMG has commented on the lawsuits.
