PRS lifts lid on its Music Recognition Technology expansion

PRS has told Music Week that its use of Music Recognition Technology (MRT) will be a “game changer” for the payment of royalties to its members.

The collection society has been using this technology to track music used in radio broadcasts for 11 years, and is speaking publicly about its expansion for the first time.

“We’ve been using MRT since 2006 for monitoring radio performances,” said Keith Hill, head of operations strategy development at PRS For Music.
