Reservoir has acquired the music publishing catalogues associated with metal, rock and indie label group Century Media.
The deal sees the number of publishing rights amassed by Reservoir over the last 20 years top 100,000, with 9,000-plus copyrights and 350-plus songwriter contracts among them. These include future works from writers signed to Magic Arts, Lonely Planet, and Element.
“This acquisition of Century Media’s publishing arms reaffirms our commitment to diversifying our music catalog and expanding Reservoir’s international offerings,” said Reservoir COO Rell Lafargue. “We look forward to welcoming Century Media’s songwriters into the Reservoir family.”
Reservoir SVP of creative and A&R, Spek, will oversee creative development for the active roster of songwriters, with additional support from Reservoir’s creative teams in New York, Los Angeles, and London.
“Century Media has been a pioneer in metal for years,” said Spek. “I’m a fan and am excited to work with these writers and build upon the incredible foundations they’ve already established.”
In 2015, Sony Music Entertainment acquired Century Media Records' family of labels: Century Media, Another Century, Inside Out, Superball and People Like You.
Established in the 1990s in LA, London and Dortmund, Germany, Century Media’s publishing arm specialises in an array of different rock and metal styles. The writer roster includes artists such as Arch Enemy, Architects, Devin Townsend, Deicide, Iced Earth, In This Moment, Lacuna Coil, Shadows Fall, Spock’s Beard, and Suicide Silence, among others.
Last month, Reservoir signed a new partnership with management company Big Life Management and its music publishing arm Big Life Music.
As part of the agreement, Reservoir will acquire a stake in Big Life Music's 3,000-plus copyrights from an eclectic roster of songwriters, whilst also expanding its business operations to include artist management activities.
