'She embraces the spirit of Beggars': Amy Morgan promoted to MD at Beggars Music

Beggars Music has appointed Amy Morgan as MD of the publisher, where she was one of the first employees seven years ago.

As exclusively revealed in the latest issue of Music Week, Andy Heath will move to be active chairman of the company in addition to roles at Beggars Group, State51, OCL and the chairmanship of UK Music.

“It’s a privilege to hand over the reins to Amy,” said Heath. “She is one of the most extraordinary executives I have ever worked with and she completely embraces the spirit of Beggars, which is to develop and expose the finest talent, being prepared for a long-term effort and putting the interests of the music maker first.”

Morgan has been heading up the creative side of the business, signing and developing acts including Hyundai Mercury Prize winner Sampha, Mica Levi and Glass Animals, who she manages.

Beggars Music has also hired music supervisor Sam Carlin as head of film and TV licensing in the US. In the London office, Will Moore joins from Ninja Tune as copyright and licensing manager.

The publisher has a close relationship with label partners including Matador, 4AD and Young Turks, as well as signing acts who have label deals outside the Beggars Group.

Morgan said: “We are constantly searching for the most outstanding writers with long-term potential regardless of genre. In the last few months alone, we have signed Snail mail, This is The Kit and The Weather Station, all of whom are in the middle of sold-out tours, and Powell, whose disruptive brand of electronic punk is constantly unexpected and exciting.”
