'She is the definition of an icon': Primary Wave take stake in Whitney Houston publishing, image and more

Whitney Houston

The estate of Whitney Houston has announced a deal with Primary Wave Music Publishing.

The company has acquired a stake in the late singer-songwriter's publishing, master recording income, name, likeness and brand.

The latter part of the deal includes a profit share for Houston's films, including Waiting To Exhale, The Preacher's Wife and the cinematic and musical versions of The Bodyguard.

Hailing the agreement, Primary Wave Music's founder and CEO Lawrence Mestel declared: "Whitney Houston is an incomparable artist whose voice resonates in people's lives to this day. She is the definition of an icon."

Houston's sister-in-law, Pat Houston, from Whitney Houston's estate explained the artist's legacy will benefit from Primary Wave's connection.

"We are more than elated to partner with an organisation whose momentum in the marketplace is extraordinarily well-respected by industry leaders worldwide," Pat Houston explained.

"With Primary Wave's global appeal and wealth of contacts, the partnership will advance the artistry and integrity of Whitney's legacy to a stratosphere that she herself left us all to enjoy for a lifetime."

The Houston deal is the latest in a series of recent high-profile Primary Wave signings, including the likes of Leon Russell, Paul Anka and Lady Gaga collaborator DJ White Shadow.
