Sony/ATV sign deal with music app maker Gismart

Sony/ATV

Sony/ATV Music Publishing has agreed to license content to music app maker Gismart.

The deal will mean the market-leading publisher's catalogue will now be available for games, including apps such as Karaoke Face, and follows a partnership with Universal Music Publishing Group which was signed last year.

“Gismart is committed to developing its ‘A-team’ of global music partners," declared the company's vice president of business development and marketing Lana Meisak.

"Our new strategic deal with Sony/ATV supercharges the content available in Karaoke Face, which is the world’s first karaoke app featuring AR masks and filters. With over three million tracks and songs the Sony/ATV catalogue covers every era and genre of popular music.”

Gismart have enjoyed over 350m downloads for their apps to date and boast 17 million monthly active users. They previously have collaborated with The Chainsmokers for their Beat Maker Go app.

The deal follows the first senior appointments made by new Sony/ATV CEO Jon Platt, in April this year, and Music Week's exclusive story about the appointment of David Ventura and Tim Major to run Sony/ATV UK.

Plus you can read Music Week's interview with Platt's predecessor, biz veteran Martin Bandier, who left the publisher after 12 years in March. Bandier talks us through the art of the deal, explaining why "bigger is better" in publishing today.
