Thomas Scherer promoted to top US publishing role at BMG

BMG's Thomas Scherer, currently EVP of international writer services based in LA, will also serve as EVP BMG US Publishing with direct responsibility for BMG’s LA and New York-based publishing creative teams.

“We are delighted to promote Thomas Scherer to this new enhanced role,” said BMG CEO, Hartwig Masuch. “In his understanding of our core values and with his positive energy and ability to inspire others, Thomas is an invaluable member of the BMG team.”

Scherer has helped shape BMG’s LA-based Writer Services function, most recently through the development of its successful SoundLab writers’ camps. In his international role he has contributed to signings and acquisitions in US, Europe, Asia, and Australia as well as coordinating BMG’s industry-leading service to professional songwriters around the globe.

Scherer will report to Zach Katz, president, repertoire & marketing of BMG US in connection with BMG's US Publishing activities and will also continue to report directly to CEO Hartwig Masuch in his international role.

Scherer has more than 30 years experience in the music industry, first as a drummer and successful music producer in his native Germany, and later with his own label through the old BMG. After founding his own companies in Germany and Japan, he joined the new BMG in its Berlin head office shortly after its creation in 2008. He relocated to BMG’s LA office in 2014.
