Catherine Marks has been named UK Producer Of The Year at the MPG Awards in London. The accolade was in recognition for her work on albums by The Amazons, Manchester Orchestra and Mercury-nominated The Big Moon.
The Music Producers Guild Awards marked its 10th anniversary with this year’s ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
Marks won the big award on a night when a total of five women were honoured. The Music Producers Guild said the wins proved that music production is no longer a male-dominated business.
"This is for the ladies," said Marks, who was handed the award by The Big Moon.
Manon Grandjean won the Recording Engineer Of The Year Award, following the success of Stormzy’s debut album Gang Signs & Prayer (produced by Fraser T Smith). The grime star namechecked Grandjean and Smith during his BRIT Awards acceptance speech - and he made a surprise appearance at the MPGs.

Jane Third
Jane Third, who started as chief creative officer at PIAS last autumn, won the MPG A&R Award. She moved from her role as SVP of A&R and marketing at Because Music UK, where she worked with artists including Metronomy, Django Django, Little Dragon, Christine And The Queens and Major Lazer. Third and the Because UK team won AIM’s Independent Label Of The Year award last year.
"I've got to thank the artists who have worked with me for the past 15 years for trusting me when I was nobody," said Third.
Marta Salogni won Breakthrough Engineer Of The Year in recognition of her work in the past year including mixing for Bjork’s Utopia. She has engineered recordings by The xx, Frank Ocean, Blossoms, Sampha, Glass Animals and FKA Twigs.
The MPG Award For Inspiration was presented to Imogen Heap – the accolade is for a body of work that has inspired others. In 2010, Heap won the Grammy for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, making her the only female artist to win a Grammy for engineering their own album.
Mark ‘Spike’ Stent was named Mix Engineer Of The Year, while Garret ‘Jacknife’ Lee won for International Producer Of The Year.
Glass Animals’ Mercury-nominated How To Be A Human Being was named UK Album Of The Year – and frontman Dave Bayley also won for Self Producing Artist Of The Year.
Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley were honoured with the PPL-sponsored Award for Outstanding Contribution to UK Music. It was presented in recognition of their influential partnership in music production over the last 40 years, including studio credits on albums by Elvis Costello, Dexys Midnight Runners, Bush and Madness. Comedian Alexei Sayle presented the award.
Abbey Road was named Studio Of The Year.
