Thirteen-year-old Britain’s Got Talent finalist Beau Dermott has signed a recording deal with Decca, it has been announced.
Following the teenager’s audition for the show in 2016, Dermott has shot to fame, winning praise from the likes of judge Amanda Holden (now her mentor), Idina Menzel and now Decca Records executives.
It was at Dame Vera Lynn’s 100th birthday celebration concert at the London Palladium in March earlier this year that Dermott caught the attention of the label's A&R executives, who were impressed by her rendition of Glad Rag Doll - a song which Dame Vera sang herself as a young performer.
Dermott’s voice has recently been insured for £1 million by Lloyds of London, while she is scheduled to release debut album Brave via Decca on August 25.
Tom Lewis, Director of A&R at Decca, said: "Beau’s voice is one in a million – and that’s why it needs insuring! Having such an incredible talent at such a young age is truly remarkable, and we’re looking forward to working with Beau as she develops into a young star."
Dermott was first inspired to sing by watching The Sound Of Music. “I watched it on repeat again and again," she said. "I just loved the sound of Julie Andrews’ voice, and I’d sit on the floor and sing along. And I soon discovered I loved to sing for my own enjoyment.”
As well as Defying Gravity, which she performed in her audition for the talent show, the singer's album includes a version of Reflection from Disney’s Mulan, a rendition of Tears In Heaven by Eric Clapton, and a take on When You Wish Upon A Star from Pinocchio. It also features an original song called Brave and Sparkle, from a Japanese animated film called Your Name. “It’s like a dream come true,” Dermott commented.
