British songwriter, producer and music industry executive John Trickett passed away in his sleep at his London home on August 26.
Trickett was president and CEO of Immergent, a digital retailer and record label. An accomplished songwriter, Trickett penned more than 60 tracks. As an executive producer, he collaborated on over 300 albums, working with such artists as Fleetwood Mac, Norah Jones, Queen, Gary Moore, Britney Spears, Usher and Sting, among many others.
Trickett joined in 2010 the Board of Directors of what was then known as NARM (National Association of Record Merchandisers), now Music Business Association or MusicBiz, the US organisation regrouping physical and digital music vendors. That year, Immergent was launching its digital record store, which is currently undergoing redevelopment. In 2014, he became the Treasurer of the Music Biz Board of Directors.
James Donio, president of Music Biz, said he was “devastated" by the sudden passing of Trickett. Donio said that from a personal perspective, "John became not only a trusted adviser, but a wonderful friend, and I will miss him more than I can say."
Donio said: "He was a truly renaissance man in the music business -- a producer, engineer, publisher, and record label and commerce executive, not to mention an accomplished songwriter and musician in his own right with more than 60 song titles to his credit."
He added: "During John’s years of service to NARM and Music Biz, he brought great vision, creativity, passion, innovative spirit, and good humor, as well as a solid grounding and experience in business finance and strategic planning. His dedication to the Association was exemplary, always contributing the generous gift of his time and talents in the most selfless way possible. We cannot thank him enough for all that he did."
