Dalton Harris crowned X Factor 2018 winner, single races to top of iTunes chart

Dalton Harris beat tough competition from Anthony Russell and Scarlett Lee to win this year's X Factor  claiming 41.3% of the public vote. Harris won at The SSE Arena, Wembley with his rendition of Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s Power Of Love, with aid from 2012 winner James Arthur. As part of the duets, Lee performed One More Sleep with Leona Lewis and Russell performed I Predict a Riot with The Kaiser Chiefs.

Dalton – who was mentored by Louis Tomlinson – will now be given a recording contract with Syco Records and his Power Of Love single will be in strong contention for Christmas No.1. At the time of writing, the single was top of the iTunes Top Songs Download chart.

According to the Official Charts Company, seven previous X Factor winners have claimed the Christmas Number 1, “including Shayne Ward in 2005, Alexandra Burke in 2008 and Matt Cardle in 2010.”  Proceeds from Dalton’s single will help two children's hospice charities - Together For Short Lives, and Shooting Star Chase.

On the night, Robbie Williams was reunited with Take That for a performance of Everything Changes, while Chic frontman and guest judge Nile Rodgers took to the stage, as did Ellie Goulding to deliver her new track Close To Me. The show opened with a performance from Baby Shark alongside Simon Cowell’s son Eric.

Earlier in the weekend on Saturday night’s show, Harris performed with Emeli Sandé, Russell took to the stage with Tom Walker, while Robbie Williams was paired up with Lee.

Guest performances on the night included Anne-Marie, James Arthur and George Ezra.

Simon Cowell previously confirmed the series will return in 2019.
