Mercury Prize winner Dave has enjoyed a significant boost in sales in the first full chart week following this year’s ceremony.
The rapper emerged victorious at the show on September 19 after judges voted his debut album Psychodrama as the winner from a 12-strong shortlist including releases from Idles, Slowthai, Little Simz and Anna Calvi.
Psychodrama, released via Dave Neighbourhood/Universal, jumped 10 places to No.37 in the previous frame and now, with a full week of sales, moves to No.12.
The album topped the charts on release in March thanks to 26,390 week one sales, seeing off close competition from Foals’ Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 1, which was also on the Mercury shortlist.
With the rapper, who’s managed by Music Week Award winners and Neighbourhood co-founders Jack Foster and Benny Scarrs, still basking in the glow of his Mercury win, the album came close returning to the Top 10.
With a total of 4,258 sales this week – a 98.5% increase – it landed at No.12, easily the highest of the Mercury albums. It now has 135,757 sales to date, with 121,372 from streams.
The 1975 were unable to attend the ceremony owing to touring commitments in Australia. Their chart-topping, shortlisted album, A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships, has been a mainstay in the charts since its release and this week rose four spots to No.72 thanks to a 0.7% increase in sales (1,421 units). The record's to date sales figure is 152,108.
Idles’ Joy As An Act Of Resistance re-entered the Top 200 at No.173 thanks to a 105.7% increase in sales (836 units). Its total sales figure is 54,203.
The Bristol band enjoy a close relationship with Slowthai, whose debut album Nothing Great About Britain was also shortlisted for the Prize. The Northampton rapper put in a memorable performance on the night and his LP re-enters the chart at No.127 as a result of a 34% sales boost (991 units). The LP now has 22,337 sales.
The remaining eight shortlisted albums do not feature in the Top 200 this week.
