Over 20 European music export offices have joined forces to create the European Music Exporter Exchange Network (EMEE), a new strategic network aimed at increasing the circulation of European repertoire.
The first working board consists of Anna Hildur Hildibrandsdottir, Programme Director at the Nordic Music Export Programme (NOMEX) (Chair), Peter Smidt from Dutch organisation BUMA Cultuur Vice Chair) and Virgo Sillamaa from Music Estonia (Secretary). Members of the EMEE will meet at least three times a year to share information and set best practices within Europe. Hildur says EMEE's common goal is to export music and increase the circulation of European repertoire.
Hildur commented: “Music remains one of Europe’s most prized cultural and economic assets, and the creation of this network is hugely significant given that support and approach to our sector is being reassessed at EU level."
She added, "The European Commission has chosen the music ecosystem as the best example of a sector strongly influenced by the digital shift, built on small and medium-sized businesses, and with a strong potential for growth and job creation. This goes hand in hand with EMEE’s common goal to increase the circulation of European repertoire. EMEE welcomes the initiative from Creative Europe and fully supports a new music programme in 2020.”
