Gregory Porter has been presented with the MOBO Outstanding Contribution to Music Award.
The award was presented to the US jazz singer by MOBO CEO and founder Kanya King at London’s Gresham Centre.
Gregory Porter said: “I am truly privileged to receive the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award from the MOBOs. It is a great honour and I would like to thank everyone who has supported me in my career so far. Nat King Cole was my earliest musical inspiration so it seems fitting that I dedicate this award to him.”
Porter’s latest album Nat “King” Cole & Me is his highest charting record yet: it debuted at No.3 last week on sales of 29,694.
The singer launches his new BBC Four TV series Gregory Porter’s Popular Voices on Friday, November 17.
Ahead of the main awards ceremony at Leeds First Direct Arena on November 29, a pre-MOBO Awards show will take place on November 20 at Boisdale in London’s Canary Wharf. Winners for the 2017 MOBO Awards for Best R&B/Soul, Best Jazz, Best Gospel and Best Reggae acts will be announced on the evening
Stormzy is up for five awards this year, with former Music Week cover star J Hus recognised in four categories. MOBO has also shaken up its voting rules this year.
