Retaining the No.1 position in which it debuted last week in Ireland, The Netherlands, New Zealand and the UK, Canadian rapper Drake’s Scorpion now opens at No.1 in a further nine countries, namely Australia, Canada, The Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Slovakia, Switzerland and the USA. Also debuting at No.3 in France and No.48 in Spain, it completes its impressive portfolio with second week moves of 2-2 in Sweden, 3-3 in Flanders, 4-6 in Wallonia, 8-10 in Germany and 4-11 in Italy.
No.1 in Flanders, No.2 in Ireland, New Zealand and the UK, No.5 in Germany, No.6 in Italy, The Netherlands and Wallonia and No.9 in Sweden last week, Florence + The Machine’s fourth album, High As Hope is in decline in all of them but now debuts at No.2 in Australia, Canada, Switzerland and the USA – blocked from pole position in all four by Drake - No.3 in Austria, No.4 in Spain, No.5 in Norway, No.16 in Finland, No.17 in Slovakia, No.26 in The Czech Republic, No.24 in Hungary, No.36 in Greece and No.70 in France.
Last week, we itemized Damon Albarn’s ‘virtual group’ Gorillaz’s sixth studio album, The Now Now’s debuts in the Top 10 in seven territories, and Top 40 in a further three. It is on the slide in them but is now new at No.3 in Switzerland, No.4 in Australia, Canada and USA, No.6 in France, No.7 in Hungary and Norway, No.8 in Austria, No.11 in Spain, No.17 in Finland and The Czech Republic, No.27 in Denmark and Poland, No.55 in Greece and No.79 in Slovakia.
Welsh rockers Bullet For My Valentine’s sixth studio set, Gravity, is down heavily in the six countries in which it debuted last week but also has no fewer than 11 additional debuts to celebrate, opening at No.6 in Switzerland, No.7 in Austria, No.10 in Australia, No.12 in Finland, No.17 in the USA, No.18 in Canada, No.27 in Hungary, No.29 in The Czech Republic, No.50 in Spain, No.59 in France and No.87 in Slovakia.
Years & Years’ second album, Palo Santo, is off and running, opening at No.3 in the UK, No.6 in Flanders, No.7 in Ireland, No.13 in Norway, No.14 in The Netherlands, No.25 in Wallonia, No.27 in Germany and No.38 in Sweden.
Meanwhile London singer/songwriter Tom Grennan’s first album Lighting Matches starts a small fire in The UK (No.5), Ireland (No.28) and Germany (No.60).
Finally, although we generally cover albums in this space, it is interesting to note that England’s progress to the semi-final of the World Cup won Baddiel, Skinner & The Lightning Seeds’ 1996 European Championship anthem Three Lions a return to No.1 in the UK it also, more surprisingly ranks at No.5 in Scotland and No.65 in Ireland’s official charts, with additional iTunes rankings of No.41 in Norway, No.105 in Switzerland, No.110 in The Netherlands, No.123 in Denmark and No.144 in Austria as we go to press.
