King Crimson bassist John Wetton has died at the age of 67.
Wetton passed away in the early hours of this morning (January 31), after a long battle with colon cancer.
He rose to fame with King Crimson in the early 1970s during the iconic ‘Red’ era and went on to play with bands such as Family, Mogul Thrash, Uriah Heep, Roxy Music and Wishbone Ash.
In the early 1980s he was a founder member of Asia, which was his biggest commercial success. The band’s 1982 self-titled debut album was the biggest selling album in the world that year and featured the hit Heat of the Moment.
Wetton also embarked on a solo career, releasing acclaimed album Battle Lines in 1994.
He is survived by his wife Lisa, 18-year-old son Dylan, brother Robert and mother Peggy.
A new live album by Asia entitled Symfonia - Live In Bulgaria 2013 is released on the Frontiers label on February 24.
