Martyn Ware, founding member of The Human League and Heaven 17, has been appointed principal of Tileyard Education, a new post-graduate and professional training venture based at London’s Tileyard Studios.
Following the opening of a new training centre in January, Tileyard Education is now launching a range of training programmes in songwriting, production, music business, design and filmmaking.
Ware, who has also produced records for the likes of Tina Turner, Terence Trent D’Arby and Mavis Staples, commented on his new role: “I’m honoured to join the Tileyard team as principal for Tileyard Education. The exciting and unique possibilities of helping to design a brand new educational approach to the music industry persuaded me to get involved and I fully intend to use my passion for education to help create a genuinely world-class series of courses, which will enable students to achieve their maximum potential in the rapidly changing music industry.
“My approach, like the courses we are launching, is very much based on pragmatism – teaching students how to augment and, in particular, strongly apply the network of skills needed to be successful in today’s mixed media workplace. I believe that Tileyard Education, housed within the Tileyard Studios community, will be unique in offering the most diverse and connected range of employable skills, knowledge and networks – in fact it is my mission to make sure this happens.”
Harry Leckstein, managing director, Tileyard Education, added: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Martyn to this pivotal, strategic role at Tileyard Education. Martyn remains at the forefront of 3D sound design through his major projects with Illustrious and his iconic status as an artist and producer of The Human League, Heaven 17 and Tina Turner cement him as a true master of his craft. Tirelessly dedicated to pushing boundaries, exploring new technology and sharing his knowledge with the next generation, Martyn will be a true inspiration to those studying with and working alongside him.”
