Metallica drop entire new album on YouTube

Videos for all 13 tracks of Metallica’s just-released new album Hardwired… To Self Destruct are racking up millions of views on YouTube.

The official clips were uploaded to the video streaming site yesterday (November 17), with the metal legends to celebrate today’s release of the record with a special intimate gig at London’s House Of Vans.

Excluding the album tracks added to YouTube prior to yesterday, new song Confusion is leading the way with a view count of 1,282,886. Dream No More is on 1,092,312, while ManUNkind is on 1,065,182. All 13 clips are well into the hundreds of thousands, with Lords Of Summer – the most recently uploaded video – props up the list on 216,368.

The move will have surprised those fans who remember the band’s manager Peter Mensch branding YouTube “the devil” in an interview with BBC Radio 4 in April this year.

When contacted by Music Week at the beginning of Q4, Metallica’s representatives were unable to comment on concrete plans for streaming exclusives or special release plans for Hardwired… To Self Destruct, which follows 2008’s Death Magnetic as the group’s tenth album.
