The latest round of the Momentum Music Fund is set to benefit 20 artists in areas including marketing, touring, recording and album releases.
The recipients have been announced by the backers of the talent development fund, PRS Foundation, Arts Council England, PPL and Spotify.
The artists have been selected by a network of industry experts. This latest round is the biggest since the fund was created in 2013, thanks to additional support from the fund’s newest partner PPL.
Managed by PRS Foundation, the Momentum Music fund awards grants of £5,000 to £15,00 using public funding from Arts Council England and support from PPL. Spotify, the official digital partner, contributes additional funding as well as promotional opportunities.
Vanessa Reed, CEO at PRS Foundation said: “Momentum has played a vital role in the career of over 200 artists now, and it’s always exhilarating to delve into the sounds of the new artists who will receive this much-needed support. These 20 artists, alongside the brilliant line-up for our upcoming Momentum event in Bristol continue to reflect some of the most exciting new music that the UK has to offer.”
Peter Leathem, chief executive at PPL, added: “We are proud to provide continued financial support to PRS Foundation and to be involved in this latest round of funding which sees a record 20 artists receiving grants. During its first three years, Momentum generated £7.46 from every £1 donated, illustrating the positive impact this initiative has on the UK music industry. This latest list represents a diverse range of artists and we wish them all the very best in the next stage of their musical careers.”
Since 2013 the Momentum Music fund has supported over 200 artists, over 90 new albums and more than 100 UK tours totaling over 650 UK live dates.
A ‘Momentum Day’ panel and showcase takes place at Bristol’s Trinity Centre on November 7, featuring Radio 1’s Huw Stephens with Glastonbury Festival’s Emily Eavis and a showcase of Momentum artists.
