Music Week's gigs of the week, June 8-15

Yes, Phil Collins and Hanson are in London this week, but don’t forget to look beyond comebacks to be enjoyed only with irony. The return of theatrical Matador signing Mike Hadreas (aka Perfume Genius) is worth getting flustered about, as are back again shoegazers Ride. If you’re after something newer and more eclectic, you could do a lot worse than checking out Noga Erez, who makes bombastic, politically flavoured pop.

Thursday, June 8

Perfume Genius, Heaven, 7.30pm

Here to show London just how good his new record, No Shape, is, Mike Hadreas never really delivers a bad show. Vulnerability, drama and sticky pop collide to create a glorious mess.

Monday, June 12

Ride, Village Underground, 7.30pm

There may well be a few men of a certain age wearing earplugs in attendance, but there’s no denying the youthful abandon of Ride’s music. New album Weather Diaries is just as wide-eyed as their classics.

Tuesday, June 13

Noga Erez, The Pickle Factory, 7.30pm

Everyone’s talking about MIA’s Meltdown Festival at the moment, but also in town is an heir apparent to her position as queen of electric, socially-charged pop. Come for the dancing, leave with food for thought.

Sean Nicholas Savage + Spinning Coin, Moth Club, 7.30pm

Also on Tuesday, a tenner will buy you an evening’s entertainment from mellifluous Scottish indie crew Spinning Coin – who are pretty brilliant – and Sean Nicholas Savage, whose appeal is equally big, if rather more challenging. His freaky MO will suit Moth Club’s chintz,

Wednesday, June 14

Ulrika Spacek, The Lexington, 7.30pm

Fresh from the release of their second album Modern English Decoration on Tough Love, the Londoners arrive on Pentonville Road intent on making heads spin. Their motorik rhythms and airy melodies should make for a heady concoction.
