Nicki Minaj is being sued by Tracy Chapman over claims she used a sample without permission.
It’s been reported that the attempted clearance for the use of the sample from Baby Can I Hold You, released in 1988, delayed the release of Minaj’s album, Queen.
Ultimately, the track, Sorry, was not included on the Queen album. But it has now appeared online after it was played on a radio show.
Legal documents state that Sorry has since been reproduced on several websites. The filing also refers to Minaj’s Twitter comments on the sample clearance and the fact she “reached out” to Chapman.
The lawsuit has been filed in a court in Los Angeles.
