Pale Waves and Lewis Capaldi have been unveiled as the latest additions to BBC Radio 1’s Brit List, with boss Chris Price saying both are “just at the right tipping point”.
Price said he’s “delighted” at the addition of Pale Waves, who are signed to Dirty Hit and starred on the cover of Music Week’s new music special issue, and Scottish singer-songwriter Capaldi.
“Both artists have received considerable support from BBC Introducing and Radio 1’s specialist shows, as well as featuring in the BBC Sound Of 2018,” said Price.
“We feel they are just at the right tipping point in their career to really benefit from a long-term commitment from Radio 1’s Playlist and we look forward to supporting them in the future”.
Radio 1’s Brit List launched in January 2017 and commits to support new British artists prior to the release of their debut album over three singles. Stormzy, Tom Walker, Anne-Marie and former Music Week cover stars Mabel and J Hus are among the acts to have featured so far.
Lewis Capaldi said: “Ridiculously excited and honoured to be included in Radio 1’s Brit List! The entire team at Radio 1 and BBC Introducing have been incredible since day one, between them they’ve turned up to pretty much every show and played every tune. I’ve spent so many hours listening to Radio 1 growing up and also in the car last year when I was writing these songs between trips to London and writing back home in Scotland. I could never even have imagined I’d be included in the Brit List, I really can’t thank them enough! Also can't wait until my ex-girlfriends hear me on the radio and realise that they still don't love me!”
Pale Waves commented: “We’re so, so pleased to have been chosen for Brit List! Radio 1 have been a massive part of our story, from some of our first radio plays to being on the BBC Sound Of list this year. It’s been a huge year for us and we can’t wait to see what happens next. Thank you so much for all the support and lots of love to BBC Introducing in Manchester who have been there from the start!”
Pale Waves spoke fondly of their relationship with BBC Introducing at the Sound Of… live show earlier this year, while Music Week analysis found that the group were the most tipped emerging artist of 2018.
