Paul Epworth, Roni Size and Tony Visconti among the big winners at 2017 MPG Awards

The annual MPG Awards took place last night, with revered producers Paul Epworth and Tony Visconti among the night’s big winners.

Held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, an array of the industry’s finest turned out to honour the most talented individuals from the world of music production.

Scooping the event’s top accolade for the fourth time in his career, Paul Epworth (Adele, Coldplay, Florence and The Machine, Lana Del Rey, Paul McCartney, Bruno Mars) was named Producer Of The Year, having previously won the award in 2010, 2013 and 2015.

Previously presented as BRITs Producer Of The Year, the award was dropped by the BRITs ahead of this year’s show. According to the BPI, the decision to cease its involvement with the award was due to an overhaul of the BRITs voting academy, which meant the organisation didn’t have sufficient time to agree on a voting process with the MPG.

Meanwhile, legendary David Bowie and Iggy Pop producer Tony Visconti won two awards on the night – International Producer Of The Year for his work on Bowie’s Blackstar and Outstanding Contribution To UK Music. Blackstar also won in the UK Album Of The Year category.

Elsewhere, DJ and producer Roni Size received the coveted Inspiration Award for his innovative work in electronic music.

Tony Platt, MPG Awards managing director, said: "Every year it becomes more and more difficult to find superlatives to describe the fantastic array of talent honoured during our Awards event. It is impossible to overstate the contribution these people make to our industry. The next few years will present many new challenges but with this level of creativity and inspiration to call on, we are well placed to face them.”
