Jeff Goldblum has starred in some of the highest-grossing movies of the modern era, including Jurassic Park and Independence Day. Is the Hollywood actor now about to become one of the big stars of the Q4 release schedule?
Decca seem confident that Goldblum can do just that with his debut album as a jazz pianist, The Capitol Studios Sessions. Featuring his long-time band The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, the record will be released on November 9.
Goldblum, who has been playing the piano since he was a child, has performed at venues in Los Angeles and New York City over the past few decades. He hosts a weekly jazz variety show at LA’s Rockwell Table and Stage that intersperses his love of jazz with improvised comedy.
His talent came to light in the UK when he appeared on The Graham Norton Show and performed with Gregory Porter. Following that appearance, he became a label mate of Porter after he was snapped up by Decca.

As well as the release date, the label has confirmed details of guest stars on the album of jazz and standards. Grammy-nominated trumpeter Till Brönner appears on multiple tracks and Irish singer Imelda May guests on three songs. My Baby Just Cares For Me features former American Idol contestant Haley Reinhart, while US comedian and actress Sarah Silverman sings Me And My Shadow.
“I love improvising and that feeling of communication and interplay,” said Goldblum. “It’s one of the cornerstones of my acting technique. I see my music in the same way.”
The album was recorded at Capitol Studios with producer Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock, Madeleine Peyroux).
Goldblum and The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra head to London next month for their first ever UK live shows, which sold out immediately. They will perform at Ronnie Scott’s and Cadogan Hall, as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival, before performing in Paris and Berlin.
