Over 500 limited edition records will be released as part of this year’s Record Store Day, with special releases from the like of The Smiths, Bastille, Laura Marling, David Bowie, Ramones, Wiley and many more now confirmed.
Taking place on Saturday, April 22, this year’s Record Store Day will once again celebrate independent record stores by way of unique, limited edition releases.
And, to mark the milestone of 10 years of Record Store Day, organisers recruited five official ‘UK champions’: Slaves, Anton Newcombe (Brian Jonestown Massacre), Kate Tempest, Kate Nash and Izzy Bizu.
Furthemore, to mark the occasion, the first 20 people in each store queue will receive a limited edition Fred Perry collaboration record bag for the releases they find on the day. The bags have been designed for Fred Perry by UK based artists Suzi Kemp, Melvin Galapon, Jack Kimberley and David Sparshott for the 10th anniversary.
Natasha Youngs of Resident Music in Brighton, said: “Shops all over the country will be supporting the releases with an array of events (live music, raffles, quizzes, giveaways and more), offering a day that truly celebrates the record shop culture that we all live and breathe every day. The UK’s independent record shops are a fiercely diverse set of businesses but this event brings us together to celebrate our differences.”

Moochin' About
|
Rupert: Promise you this, 2017 is going to be all about spiritual jazz. All eyes on Soul Jazz with some huge, seminal reissues coming soon to split open minds. Alice Coltrane is always essential listening and looks like Moochin' About have done a really great job with this release. |

SKELETON KEY RECORDS
|
Natasha: We’ve all been desperate to get our hands on physical copies of this release so it’s a real treat that the band have made it happen for rsd. This one’s going to fly – it’s one of the most requested records we’ve ever experienced over the counter in recent times. |

ROUGH TRADE
|
Natasha: One of the albums we get asked for the most from the classic Britpop era. It’s a straight up classic & still sounds absolutely amazing today. This isn’t just a nostalgia release – it’s a crucial record for any collection, in any era. It’s packaged here, as it originally was, with a fanzine & flexi-disc (although apparently the track on the flexi isn’t the same as the original) |
Fleurs De Lys |

|
Phil: Proper nuclear holocaust terror synth pop - you'll know it from Channel 4's entertaining "Deutschland 83" |
Priests |
Early Recordings |
Tough Love
|
Natasha: We’ve been loving the debut from these Washington DC punks so we can’t wait to check out the early material being released especially for RSD17. They remind us of the visceral energy of Savages with the haunting menace of Siouxsie & The Banshees & ESG’s pumping post- punk-funk. Their grooves are right up my street! |
Ramones |
Ramones Singles Box |
Rhino
|
Derry: All the singles from '76 to '79. Definite contender for best unbroken classic singles run |
Raincoats |
Fairytale In The Supermarket |
We ThRee
|
Derry: Still sounds as radical & fresh nearly 40 years since its first release. Reminds me of possibly the greatest line up I ever saw at one gig: Slits, Pop Group, Au Pairs, Essential Logic, John Cooper Clarke & The Raincoats. |
Rodney P |
Untitled |
Dinked |
JT: godfather of UK Hip Hop |
Suzanne Ciani |
Fish Music |
Finders Keepers Records |
Rupert: If anyone is pompous to proclaim that 'RSD has not put out anything interesting' then we have the simplest retort; "Previously unheard recording of an early installation project from a 17-year-old Suzanne Ciani" - Do your homework. |
The Small Faces |
In Session At The BBC 1965-66 |
Immediate |
Ashlie: Solid RSD release from the never disappointing Small Faces. Featuring interview highlights with Steve Marriott, what's not to like? |
The Smiths |

Rupert: 20th-anniversary replica edition of the of 1997 single. SFA are a band that never stopped developing and experimenting... the best. |
Thomas de Hartmann |
The Music of Gurdjieff / de Hartmann
|
Light In The Attic
|
Rupert: Like many other people, we first came to this via the I Am The Center: Private Issue New Age In America 1950-1990 compilation. Amazingly, this material, out of print on vinyl for over three decades, we're personally thrilled to get hold of an extraordinary collaboration between the Greek-Armenian spiritual teacher, G. I. Gurdjieff and Russian composer, Thomas de Hartmann.
|
Toto |
Africa / Rosanna
|
Legacy
|
Ashlie: One of my favourite songs (stop judging me, it's not cute) presented in an Africa shaped disc - I love a good gimmick, and when better than RSD to do it? |
Various Artists |
Come To The Sunshine: Soft Pop from the Nuggets |
Rhino
|
Ashlie: These Nuggets comps are just good, and long overdue a release on vinyl. No doubt Rhino will do a beautiful job on the complimentary coloured vinyl presentation on both.

|
Various Artists |
Ethiopiques |
Heavenly Sweetness
|
Rupert: If you were thinking about putting out a box of 7"s, then this is a great release to focus on. The Heavenly Sweetness label have been quietly reissuing fascinating jazz long before everyone started noticing. Ethiopian series are 100% bangers.
