There was glory for Stormzy at the MOBO Awards tonight (November 28), as the rapper scooped Best Male Act, Best Album and Best Grime Act.
His silver-selling No.1 debut album Gang Signs & Prayer has shifted 246,371 copies to date, and fought off competition from J Hus, Nines, Sampha and Wretch 32.
The Croydon MC, who releases music through his own #Merky Records, was named Best Male ahead of artists including Giggs, Skepta and J Hus. AJ Tracey, Wiley, Chip, P Money and Skepta were also nominated in the Best Grime Act category.
Stefflon Don, this week named as a nominee for the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award 2018, won Best Female Act, while Dave won Best Newcomer.
Music Week coverstar J Hus took home the award for Best Song for Did You See, while Mist won Best Video for Hot Property.
Elsewhere, Giggs – set to play Spotify’s Who We Be event in London this week (November 30) – won Best Hip-Hop Act, Craig David was named Best R&B/Soul Act, Wizkid won Best International Act and Davido was crowned Best African Act.
Damian Marley, Moses Boyd and Volney Morgan & New-Ye won in the Reggae, Jazz and Gospel categories respectively.
