Taylor Swift has recorded a new acoustic rendition of her Reputation hit Delicate and a cover of Earth, Wind & Fire’s September exclusively for Spotify Singles.
The move, coming on the back of Swift’s Spotify exclusive video for Delicate, is the latest evolution in her relationship with streaming.
In the autumn of 2014, Swift famously pulled her last album, 1989, and catalogue from Spotify having said she was “not willing to contribute my life’s work” to the streaming experiment. Swift reversed the decision last summer, bringing the catalogue back to Spotify in June - a move first predicted in a Music Week interview with Spotify UK's George Ergatoudis. Swift had already embraced Apple Music after she was satisfied with its terms.
After initially being withheld from all streaming platforms, Taylor Swift’s Reputation eventually made its debut on all streaming services, both free and premium, three weeks after it was released on November 10 on physical and download formats to huge global sales.
Reputation has sold 276,139 copies to date, according to Official Charts Company data.
Swift said: “Delicate is a song about the vulnerability that immediately surfaces in all of us the minute we meet someone we want to like us. We think about everything they might've heard about us, every reason they wouldn't want us. Every step forward toward that other person scares us, but it thrills us too. Delicate is about the balancing act of the rush and the fear, and hoping it's really worth it to take that chance.”
Swift previously incorporated two Spotify Singles tracks on her personally curated Songs Taylor Loves Spotify playlist (Anderson East’s cover of Mariah Carey's Always Be My Baby, and Yoke Lore's cover of Savage Garden's Truly Madly Deeply.)
Swift will tour the UK in June, playing at Manchester Etihad Stadium, Dublin Croke Park and Wembley Stadium. She last performed in the UK at the British Summer Time festival in Hyde Park in 2015.
