Taylor Swift's Reputation sells 1.2m in US

Taylor Swift’s final first-week sales figures for the US are in: Reputation has moved a massive 1.216 million copies, according to Nielsen Music.

While Reputation opened to strong sales to hit No.1 in the UK as fans flocked to stores and iTunes for the streaming holdout release, as reported in this week’s Music Week, the record’s US performance is spectacular. Big Machine releases the album in the US, with Virgin EMI behind the UK release.

Billboard reports that the tally is the 10th-largest sales week for any album since Nielsen began electronically tracking sales 1991. Reputation is Swift’s fourth million-selling week – she is now the only artist to achieve that feat, having previously been tied with Adele.

However, Adele still holds the record for opening sales with the 3.378m copies of 25 racked up in November 2015.

Swift has already managed to have the biggest-selling album in the US this year after just a week on sale. Reputation has surpassed the total sales of ÷ by Ed Sheeran – ironically a collaborator on Swift's record. His album has so far moved 931,999.

Scott Borchetta, CEO of Big Machine Label Group, tweeted his delight at the result for Swift.
