Dave has told Music Week that his forthcoming debut album will be his best work yet.
The South London MC reached No.13 with his Game Over EP (38,394 sales, OCC) in 2017 and his biggest single so far is 100M’s (109,337 sales). Drake’s remix of Wanna Know has 55 million Spotify plays.
Game Over followed Dave’s debut EP, Six Paths, and both featured writing and production from Fraser T Smith, who told Music Week of his excitement about working with the rapper back in February.
Since then, Smith and Dave have appeared on the cover of Music Week, together with Polydor signing Raye, another of the writer and producer’s key collaborators. Catch up on what they said about each other here.

Smith, whose portfolio of UK rap collaborators stretches back to Kano and Tinchy Stryder, will helm Dave’s debut album, just as he did Stormzy’s chart-topping, BRIT Award winning debut Gang Signs & Prayer.
“I always say to Fraser that I enjoy working best when I already have the lyrics so there’s not as much pressure on writing,” Dave told Music Week. “Because when you have to write lyrics sometimes you can’t be as free and focused on the production.”
Dave warned that the album is unlikely to surface this year, explaining that he’s been “going away trying to write as much as I can, getting ideas, experience, life, to come back with a fresh perspective”.

The MC believes that locking himself away to perfect his lyrics may lead to a better end result.
“This time away working in weird patterns on my own and not doing the conventional thing has definitely helped me write some alternative lyrics and come back with something different,” he said.
“When me and Fraser finally come to create this album together and work on the music and some of the lyrics from scratch, it’s going to be some of the best stuff I’ve ever done. I feel it’s going to be something special. Having Fraser as producer is a special thing.”
