DIY's Emma Swann on Partybaby's The Golden Age of Bullshit
It’s rare for an act to appear out of nowhere, let alone do so seeming fully-formed, but when Partybaby’s Everything’s All Right landed on our laps 12 months back, it was impossible to believe the duo hadn’t long given up trying to write mega-hits for the likes of Christina Aguilera.
Noisy, brash and deliriously weird, the LA duo (Jamie Reed and Noah Gersh) followed it up with the pure-pop filtered Your Old Man and it seemed absurd that they had barely played live.
Cue a brief trip to the UK (with full band) and a handful of suitably raucous gigs – including a practically perfect showcase at The Great Escape in May – and this not-quite-album they sprung on us in early September.
For The Golden Age Of Bullshit, think Fidlar and Wavves with more pop sensibilities, or a more epic-leaning Weezer album: fuzzy, bombastic pop-punk, with a side-eye glance. Pure adrenaline.
