Joe’s head of music & lifestyle Will Lavin on Bazzi’s Mine
I could talk for days about all the exciting new talent that’s sprouting up from all corners of the world. Whether it’s the Bay Area’s 1-O.A.K., Liverpool’s Louis Berry, Manchester’s Pale Waves or Toronto’s ShaqIsDope, there should never be a complaint about not knowing what to listen to next.
Now, if we’re talking about an artist whose music has hit me like a baseball bat to the face, then we need to talk about Bazzi.
The Michigan singer/songwriter is special - one listen to his music and you’ll understand exactly why I think this.
It’s sonically rich and paints a multicoloured picture of euphoric bliss and lays the perfect backdrop for his soulful vocals. Eargasmic is an easier way to put it.
Listening to songs like Beautiful, Sober and Gone feels very reminiscent of being introduced to The Weeknd. But it’s his love drunk anthem Mine that really took me by surprise. Like finding out Jay-Z cheated on Beyoncé, I was not expecting it.
Igniting something deep within me that I can’t quite explain, Mine inspired at least 15 rewinds (it is pretty short, though) and is now in regular rotation at home and work.
Think JMSN meets Drake and you’ll have some sort of idea on what to expect from this weightless gem.
