Metal Hammer’s Luke Morton on Cursed Earth’s Cycles Of Grief: The Complete Collection
Kicking and screaming their way out of Perth’s vibrant hardcore scene, Cursed Earth are as mercilessly vile and nasty as their name suggests.
Standing alongside Full Of Hell and Code Orange, they’re part of a new movement, redefining heavy music with their
mix of bloodcurdling intensity and brooding darkness. But it’s not all hellacious blast-beats and fury - there’s underlying swagger and bounce, giving fans of both Slayer and Parkway Drive something to throw down to.
Honing their craft in their local DIY punk scene, the band recently signed to UNFD. Their latest release Cycles Of Grief: The Complete Collection (which merges their two Cycles Of Grief EPs, Growth and Decay) clocks in at less than 25 minutes and will rip your skin clean off.
While the first EP is emotionally heavy and drowning in gloom, the second is all-out war, with the sub-two minute Regret battering your senses from all angles.
Vocalist Jazmine Luders sounds like she’s going to chew you up and wash you down with broken glass, barking out cries of darkness and pain.
With young people feeling disconnected all over the world, in 2017, heavy music needs young bands with something to say. Cursed Earth have plenty on their minds: just don’t expect to be smiling when they’re finished.
