When you think of where pop stars come from, Midwestern America doesn’t necessarily come to mind immediately.
It was an excellent surprise when I first came across Reyna’s debut single Spill Your Colours in 2016 that the Milwaukee duo, made up of sisters Victoriah and Hannah Gabriela Banuelos, were from none other than my home state of Wisconsin. As an act from a state where country music is the genre of choice, Reyna have proven themselves as one of the most exciting pop groups around at the moment.
Their music lands perfectly in the fast lane of current pop music. There are traces of Tegan And Sara’s perfect harmonies mixed with Carly Rae Jepsen’s bubbly production. Even with these familiar elements, Reyna bring a sense of uniqueness with their lyrics that are charming and catchy. Check out current single Heartbeat for evidence.
From opening for Kesha, Chvrches and X Ambassadors to a Universal single deal, Reyna are prepared to go to new heights in 2019, with their debut EP on the way. Who would have thought the next big thing in pop music would be coming from a rural state in the middle of America?
