Each week, Music Week profiles a red hot new artist. Here, we introduce noisy teenage South Londonders Black Midi...
KEY TRACK: N/A
LABEL: Unsigned
MANAGEMENT: pj@grossmgmt.com
FACEBOOK: facebook.com/blackmidi
WHO: Four teenagers who go by Geordie, Morgan, Matt and Cameron.
WHAT: The latest band of young dirtbags causing a rumble south of the river Thames, Black Midi have just been taken on by Shame’s managers.
WHERE: Selhurst, in the borough of Croydon.
SO, DO THEY SOUND LIKE SHAME?
In that their songs are grubby and difficult to predict, yes. But Black Midi operate in a much murkier area, channelling post-hardcore, punk and restless noise.
Music blog Misfit City recently praised them for “whittling piles of breeze-blocks into mysterious
cranky monuments”.
CAN I CHECK THEM OUT ONLINE?
Not really. The band’s recently created Facebook page is minimal to say the least, and there is no music online, not even a SoundCloud page.
WHAT ABOUT GIGS, THEN?
The buzz started at Brixton’s excellent Windmill venue (where they played twice just last week), and more shows are in the works.
