Each week, Music Week profiles a red hot brand new artist. Here, we introduce Swedish shoegazers Echo Ladies...
KEY TRACK: Nothing Ever Lasts
LABEL: Sonic Cathedral
MANAGEMENT: echo.ladies@hotmail.com
TWITTER: @echo_ladies
WHO: School friends Matilda Bogren, Mattis Andersson and Joar Andersén.
WHAT: Shoegaze, but not quite as you know it. The trio are equal parts muscle and softness - their songs exist where The Jesus And Mary Chain meet Camera Obscura.
WHERE: Malmö, Sweden. Matilda, Mattis and Joar played in separate bands before teaming up.
SO SHOEGAZE IS STILL GOING STRONG, THEN?
It is at Sonic Cathedral. The label is as a mecca for the genre, and proudly unearths its best new names. Speaking of which, Echo Ladies took part of theirs from The Bunnymen’s drum machine. They haven’t named theirs yet.
I LOVE A GOOD DRUM MACHINE…
Quite. On Echo Ladies’ upcoming self-titled EP, it helps marry sweet melodies with crunching guitars.
ARE THEY PLAYING LIVE?
Yes. The EP drops March 23, they hit the UK in April and the trio’s debut album will follow in the summer.
