WHO? Singer and poet. Attracted the ears of Jagjaguwar, who are reissuing debut solo album Heavn this month.

WHAT? Ultra-modern protest music. Woods uses soul, R&B and pop as playthings, crafting a lysergic background for her vocals.

WHERE? Chicago, also home to collaborator Chance The Rapper. It’s a fertile stomping ground for Woods.

As well as Chance, Heavn features Windy City musos Nico Segal, Noname, Saba, Peter Cottondale, OddCouple and Kweku Collins. Spread over 20 tracks, their work makes for a tricksy listen.
