WHO: Singer Alex Rice leads a six-piece (or sometimes more) band that includes his former university mates Henry, Ben, Rob, Oli and Alex.
WHAT: Theatrical indie. Scruffy and over the top, imagine a dishevelled Jarvis Cocker fronting Pavement.
WHERE: The band met at Cambridge, but now they live in Harlesden, North West London, near the McVitie’s biscuit factory.
SO, WHAT’S THE STORY?
So far, Sports Team have mainly told their story on stage, their gigs grabbing the attention of indie kids and the music biz alike – Annie Mac told listeners, “Sports Team should be your new favourite band.”
HIGH PRAISE…
Yes. Songs filled with imagery of drab Britain and bookish ennui, brought to life at wonky gigs where it feels like anything might happen.
CAN I SEE THEM?
They play the Scala on September 19. But look out for last minute gigs between now and then.
