Making Waves: The Homesick

Making Waves: The Homesick

Each week, Music Week's Making Waves column profiles the hottest new names in music. Here, we focus on Dutch noise popsters The Homesick.

KEY TRACK: Gucci Gucci

LABEL: Yala! Records/ Subroutine Records
MANAGEMENT: Peter Dijkstra
TWITTER: @thehomesick0519

WHO: Frontman Elias Elgersma, bassist and singer Jaap van der Velde and drummer Erik Woudwijk.

WHAT: The Homesick call themselves noise pop, but it’s safe to say there’s more of the former in their jabbing, metallic sound.

WHERE: Dokkum, a small town in the Dutch province of Friesland.

SO THEY’RE LOUD, THEN?

Very much so. The Homesick make uncompromising records, with guitar, bass and drums beaten together into incredibly tight, slightly doomy yet innately catchy songs.

WHAT HAVE THEY RELEASED?

Last year’s eight-track record Youth Hunt and this year’s Gucci Gucci single – which came through Felix White’s Yala! Records label – star in a catalogue that began with 2013’s Television EP.

In the intervening time, The Homesick have honed their brutal sound, and the rest of world is catching on.
